This month 96.9 the Cloud celebrates our friends at Foothills Animal Shelter with a very special Foothills for Foothills event.
Foothills has been serving Jefferson County, Colorado and the entire metro since 1976.
Each and every year the shelter manages to take care of over 8000 puppies, cats and critters with a caring and thoughtful staff.
Together with our advertising partners at Foothills Motorcycles, we connected for a special weekend featuring the animal shelter.
This collaborative event was designed to raise both funds and awareness for this very special place in the Cloud.
The entire event was a Colorado & Company feature on KUSA-TV:
We are very thankful to have been instrumental in building a meaningful event for our community partners with a special thank you to all.
Including Liz Maddy (pictured – marketing director at Foothills Animal Hospital), Katie Hemenover (events manager at Foothills Motorcycles), Karen Rocznik (producer at Colorado & Company) and our gracious and elegant TV host: Denise Plante.
Our up-and-down and all around weather in Colorado can actually impact your vibe.
Whether you struggle with natural day-to-day worries or a clinically diagnosed disorder, you may need support for common anxiety.
Conventional treatments like medicine and psychotherapy are popular ways of dealing with anxiety, but there are many natural approaches — including some fairly simple (and perhaps unexpected) lifestyle adjustments that work well with our Colorado lifestyle.
Here are a few of the most common natural remedies for anxiety:
What goes in is what comes out.
A well-balanced diet is one of the most important and well-known facets of dealing with stress and anxiety.
One way to use food to reduce anxiety, according to Harvard Medical School, is to keep blood sugar as stable as possible by replacing simple sugars with complex carbohydrates, which metabolize more slowly.
It’s also crucial to drink plenty of water and limit trips to Starbucks and, well booze (especially alone).
You may find increasing minerals like zinc and magnesium helpful too.
There are certain herbs and vitamins known to support our bodies as they deal with stress.
Keep in mind that some herbs can negatively interact with medicines, so please discuss supplements with your doctor.
Some of the most common supplements for anxiety include:
Probiotics: probiotic strains Lactobacillus helveticus and Lactobacillus rhamnosus can have potent effects on mood, particularly stress.
Ashwagandha: an herb that supports the adrenal glands, for reducing anxiety and managing situational stress.
Passionflower: can be an effective treatment for anxiety. It can, however, cause dizziness and drowsiness, so make sure to use it under the supervision of a doctor.
Chamomile: Studies show that chamomile capsules could help people suffering from mild or moderate generalized anxiety disorder.
Regular workouts can decrease tension, elevate and stabilize mood, support sleep, and improve self-esteem.
Even five minutes of aerobic exercise can stimulate anti-anxiety effects.
Yoga can also reduce stress and anxiety because it involves breathing techniques, relaxation, and taming the body’s stress response through a lower heart rate and blood pressure.
The great thing about yoga? You can do it anywhere.
4. Music, Meditation & Prayer:
This powerful combination can help the body and mind regulate what might be a stress point in your life. A quiet time to begin your daily journey is key.
If you struggle with anxiety, seeking the support of a therapist, pastor or a loved one is a great first step, especially if you would like to address the root of what’s causing your anxiety.
Music can impact your groove and make you feel good at the same time (you will never tire of that favorite song on the radio).
Lastly, no one is an island.
Make time for a nice chat, coffee or phone call with someone you care about daily.
It’s called: The best friend method.
Be one to someone you love today, including: yourself!

Right after 96.9 the Cloud signed on the air last year, it was clear to us that there was a need to seek out local bands that have what’s now known as “the cloud sound” that our listeners have come to expect.
We did not have to look far.
Right in are own backyard of Golden, Colorado we found the perfect local match for the Cloud.
Emma Cole (lead vocal), Josh Hester, Seth Beamer and Caleb Thoemke. Now touring and appearing on i-Heart Media venues and recently on NBC-TV.

It’s summer time in Jefferson, County and time to take advantage of some of the amazing Farmers Markets in Colorado.
Our friends at Jefferson County Public Health have launched this years SNAP Program at Farmer’s Markets, and the Cloud is proud to be the official radio station of SNAP in Jeffco.
In her own words, here’s the remarkable and dedicated member of the SNAP team at Jeffco Public Health: Nikki Work (heard daily on 96.9 the Cloud).
Tell Us About The SNAP Double Up Program in Jeffco?
Every time you go to a farmers market, you’re visiting a place that’s making a difference in your community. Farmers markets help tackle food insecurity by providing locally-grown food right in your neighborhood and, many markets in Jefferson County participate in the Double Up Food Bucks program.
How Does The Program Work?
When a customer spends $1 on any SNAP eligible item, they receive $1 to spend on Colorado-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. It’s a $1 to $1 match so if you spend $5, you get $5. If you spend $10, you get $10 — up to $20 every visit.
This program helps those who need it most, and at the same time, it supports Colorado farmers and keeps our local economy strong.

Long a Colorado favorite at area Farmers Market’s, Dirt Coffee Bar is now open in Historic Downtown Littleton.
The converted and equally charmed mid-century home of Dirt Coffee is located at 5767 South Rapp Street (on the same block as the original historic home of the Littles).
As soon as you pull into the drive, you can feel that you’re in for something very special.
You’ll soon find out why.
Dirt is on a very special journey, creating tasty handcrafted food, exceptional coffee and employing & empowering individuals with Autism.
In our opinion, Dirt Coffee will soon become the piazza of Historic Down Town Littleton.
Dirt Coffee is a warm environment with skilled and friendly baristas, blended with the fine aroma and flavor of freshly ground + brewed coffee that matters.
The Cloud sat down with Executive Director, Lauren Burgess (M.Ed) to learn more about this very special place in the heart of our community.
Tell us about your inspiration to launch Dirt Coffee?
I’ve been working with individuals with Autism for over a decade and continue to be surprised at just how difficult it is for them to find a job.
With 90% of people with autism either unemployed or underemployed, it’s time for a change and I figured a coffee shop is the perfect place to begin making that change.
How’s it going?
So far, incredible. The community has been very supportive and is doing great keeping us busy!
Our internship program is set to launch next month and we hope to bring on about 10 individuals with autism to come in and learn new job skills.
Throughout her career, Lauren has founded organizations, like Dirt, with a mission to empower individuals living on the spectrum though community.
She has served on a number of boards including Colorado’s Coalition of Autism Professionals, Autism Society of Colorado, South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce and Alliance.
In 2016, Lauren was elected to serve as City Commissioner on Denver’s Commission for People with Disabilities. While advocating for public policies that positively impact individuals with disabilities.
